SUMMARY : In accompanying my mother to Lisbon, where she was to edit Manoel de Oliveira’s The Strange Case of Angelica, I had hoped to rekindle memories of the filmmaking world I had grown up in. The return to Portugal proved to be a different, more personal journey through the editing rooms of Oliveira’s previous twenty films. One door closes, another opens. White Gloves is a film about my filmmaking apprenticeship, about the many things that were imparted to me by this director and film-editor, year after year, in silence.
